How To Keep Your Generator Running Smoothly

Q: How often should I change the oil in my generator? It only runs once a week.

A: Generator maintenance should be done at least once a year. The oil breaks down in the engine regardless if it runs all the time or just on a weekly exercise. If your generator runs more than150 hours a year, you should have maintenance done to it twice a year.

Q: What are things I can do to make sure my generator works as expected?

A: Make sure your generator maintenance is done at least once a year and keep both intake and exhaust areas clear outside the unit. Generally, these areas are to the right and left side of your generator. For example, clear weeds, debris and other objects. Also, check/clean air filters with an air hose or dust off regularly.
